The SYPG welcomes young professionals and students in their 20’s in the ACT region. We offer a welcoming and personalised way for young professionals to meet new contacts. The SYPG provides the opportunity for young professionals to form valuable connections, develop the essential skills and contacts necessary to succeed in their careers.

Starting your career can be challenging enough but you also need to have good interpersonal skills and the contacts to get ahead and stand out. Besides, did you know only about 15% of jobs end up advertised - most are filled by word of mouth before then! Which means you need connections and a portfolio of contacts to assist you.

Besides, its much easier to make contacts now when you are starting out and have more in common with your peers, than in a few years time when you are speaking a different professional language! The contacts you make now can be a vital asset in the future and a source of information, jobs and opportunities.

Get Involved

Perhaps you are new to the region and just want to meet some new friends, or have a new business you want to grow, or simply want to perfect your networking skills, well that's where we come in!  We welcome young professionals from all backgrounds to our relaxed and friendly events, so its a great way to make new contacts. Unlike the rest of the Schmooze  network you don't have to be a member to come to our events- we offer casual tickets  so you can just come along as it suits you and pay the cover charge at the door which includes all drinks and canapes.

What We Offer

The SYPG is unique among young professional groups:

• we work with a wide range of young professional groups in the region to ensure the most diverse range of professions
• we present inspiring young professionals to share their experiences and insights

• we also offer members of Schmooze the opportunity to send their junior colleagues to SYPG events to give them the opportunity to hone their networking and interpersonal skills, gain confidence and gain essential career skills.

Our Events

We stage events every month, which include an inspirational young professional telling us about their success, career pathways and passion, as well as some speed networking to make sure everyone gets to mingle. Each Monthly Schmooze is different, as we work with a range of professions each time to expand the opportunities to make new contacts and friends.

The events are held in some of the city's leading venues and our aim is to create a stylish and welcoming networking zone to make everyone as relaxed and connected as possible. We also hold events in partnership with other ACT young professional groups to broaden the opportunities for our members & organisations to make new friends and develop further contacts.

If you are a member of Schmooze you can attend any SYPG for free (One Pass per member and their guest) -as long as you are under 30. 

Not a member? No problem: you are welcome to attend the Monthly Schmooze on a casual basis, just pay the $20 cover charge which includes all drinks, nibbles etc

The Schmooze Young Entrepreneurs Group has additional gatherings each month to connect young business people and entrepreneurs to support them in the businesses endeavours and provide expert insights.

• The November Schmooze hosted by the Crawford School of Economics and Government at the ANU 
• The February Schmooze (2009) at University House, hosted by Wisdom Learning
• The March Schmooze at Muddle Bar, with our guest speaker Emilia Rossi from Carmen Steffans
