Program for 2010
As we are in our sixth year of operations, we continue to expand and evolve our program of events and opportunities for our members and guests.
This page outlineS the headline activities, but doesn't include the events etc hosted by our members and kindred organisations that will occur throughout the year, nor the opportunities that will arise along the way in response to our members suggestions.
Schmooze Hosted Monthly Activities
Each month, except December, Schmooze hosts the following:
- The Monthly Schmooze - make new contacts and friends in a welcoming and stylish atmosphere
- Professional Development Workshops on a range of skills and business insights
- Member Only Interest Groups for: Sustainability, Marketing & Communications, Small Business Owners and Leadership
- Young Professional (SYPG) events (alternating months)
In addition, members are often invited to events hosted by other members or kindred organisations at special rates.
Year to Date summary
- Held six Monthly Professional Schmooze’s (over 700 members and guests)
- Hosted two SYPG Schmooze’s (100 guests) and launched our program
- hosted Ten members Interest Groups discussions
- Held six Professional Development Workshops (120 participants)
- Joint events with Australian Institute of Training and Development and Canberra Business Point
- Introduced twitter and Linked In social media
- Held several Master classes for clients
- Refining the website (again!) with some 500 unique visits a day
- Introduced new membership packages
- Co-hosted the Canberra Communications and Marketing Forum (over 220 participants)with the AMI and PRIA
- Appointed a new Members Relations Manager
- Developing Melbourne Schmooze….. Launching later this year….
- Attracted over 100 new members plus we have over 600 facebook friends for the SYPG and Professional branches !!
Evolution of Schmooze
The initiatives this year include:

- Expansion of our activities to Melbourne, and creating a new networking sister organisation in the Illawarra region with reciprocal rights for member

- Casual Tickets available for the Monthly Schmooze for the first time for non-members
- Expansion of the Social Branch's program of activities, read more here.
- A higher profile with more PR and advertising during the year, including featured in the City News in March and WIN News Canberra in July.

- Refreshing of website content and enhancements: we've already re-written the website over the summer break and look out for new features, articles, and more!
Program of Events
Monthly Activities
Each month, except December, Schmooze will host the following activities, members can attend these for free:
- The Monthly Schmooze: our flagship events will continue to set the bar for style, vibe and great connections for professional, business and social networking. Several of the events will be joint events with kindred organisations like Canberra Business Point in March.
- Professional Development Workshop: these will be focused on essential skills and insights for new and emerging small business owners
- Member-Only Interest Groups for Sustainability, Marketing PR & Communications, Small Business Owners and Leadership: to foster new insights and provide a collaborative space for discussions and brainstorming
- Young Professional Group events (alternating months): These events provide the perfect environment for under 30's to meet, be inspired by leading young people and learn essential interpersonal skills and connections. Read more here.
In addition, members will be invited to events hosted by other members or kindred organisations at special rates such as the Canberra Communications and Marketing Forum held in May co-hosted with the AMI and PRIA.

These are held monthly at the National Press Club and are open to both members and guests on the 2nd Tuesday of the Month.

The Monthly Schmooze
These famous events are held on the last Wednesday evening of each month more like a sophisticated cocktail party than the boring same old same old business networking function! You can view footage of past Schmooze's on Schmooze TV and images on our gallery.

- February- held in partnership with the Australian Institute of Training and Development at the Australian National Aquarium and Zoo
- March- held in partnership with Canberra Business Point with the Chief Minister of the ACT as our guest of honour at the ACT Legislative Assembly
- April- held in partnership with Bartercard at Legends Wine Bar
- May- presented by SilverSun Pictures at their new studio in Kingston
- June- presented by Manpower at the National Press Club
- July- presented by 10x
- August- presented in partnership with M16 Artspace
- September - details TBA
- October- presented by NinetoFive Interiors at their Fyshwick Studio
- November: Our 7th Birthday event!
Schmooze Young Professional Group
- The SYPG will host several events with the theme Inspiration to Reality- you can read about the events program here.
- We also offer the opportunity for young professionals to serve on the SYPG Council for six months and gain fantastic experience and profile, read more here
- Fostering more connections and profile on the campuses of the CIT, ANU and UC to provide a supportive bridge for new Canberran's and those about to enter the work force.
- We also introduced the opportunity for interns to work on SYPG events for short projects.
Conceptual Stage (no promises we're just thinking them through at this point!)
- A public sector/ creative sector exchange: a series of candid and provocative forums to foster a better understanding and collaboration between clients/contractors and sectors
- Joint events with other young professional groups via the SYPG
- A new regular, Schmooze Salon, exclusively for prospective new members and invited members in a sit down format
- Developing professional development programs that can be delvered in house for clients drawing on our members expertise
- A social venture enterprise in partnership with other organisations.
- Wine appreciation classes
- The Doggy Schmooze: Strut Your Mutt fundraising event!
- Art appreciation and investment workshops
