about the National Folk Festival
Canberra’s best kept secret is out – The National Folk Festival is Australia’s favourite festival and it’s coming soon! If you’re one of the far-too-many Canberrans who have never been to the National Folk Festival, you might be surprised by what you’ll find.
Just announced as the winner of the Festivals and Events category of the national Qantas Australian Tourism Awards, it seems the rest of Australia is starting to catch on to one of our best kept secrets.
This Easter weekend (1–5 April) Exhibition Park in Canberra will be transformed with a celebration of music, dance, and culture from all over the world.
The National Folk Festival is a tremendously fun and unique experience for the young and the young at heart.
With over 50 hours of performance from more than 200 stellar local and international artists in 23 separate venues, it’s one of Australia’s biggest and best outdoor events and offers great value for money. In between gigs, you can replenish your energy with gourmet food from around the world, perhaps washed down with a boutique beer, mulled wine, or the famous cider.
Catch one of dozens of street theatre performance as you wander through the 90 or so market stalls, looking at handcrafted and Australian-made jewellery, home wares, clothing, instruments and other collectibles. And when you’re ready for more fun, brand new Fringe Festival ‘The Majestic’ will delight you with an extravaganza of circus, cabaret, vaudeville, slapstick, lunacy and general tomfoolery!
Come for a day or spend the whole weekend at the National Folk Festival and you’ll soon see – there’s more to folk than you think!
