Our Events

Throughout the year we offer a range of events aimed at making it easy to connect and learn in a welcoming and informal atmosphere.

The program also offers a platform for our members to showcase and share their expertise and venue.

We also promote events hosted by our members such as workshops, charity fundraisers and social functions.

Members enjoy free entry to most Schmooze-hosted events in any location, or at cost price.  Non-member guests are very welcome and can purchase a Guest Pass ($65 each) to attend our events.

By staying in tune to the interests of our members, our program is constantly evolving, and we also create activities in response to the interests and suggestions of our members.

We host several events each month in Melbourne and Canberra and welcome over 2500 members and guests to our events each year.

 

 


Schmooze hosts the following activities- these are offered for free or at cost for our members- and we generally offer several of them each month:

  • The Monthly Schmooze - our flagship event each month - make new contacts and friends in a welcoming and stylish atmosphere
  • Business Essentials Workshops - expert business insights on a range of interpersonal business and professional skills
  • Young Professional events- networking and seminars on practical life skills for under 30's
  • Business Lunch Club / Networking dinners - ideas, great company and conversation
  • Schmooze@Campus- key career and interpersonal skills for tertiary students
  • Members 360- collaborative learning and shared insights for business owner members
  • Member Experiences- special events hosted by a member to showcase their business
  • Coming in 2013: webinars with expert insights from Schmooze and our members

Plus we also offer members and guests:

  • In house Events -we can assist with 'rent a crowd for your next corporate function
  • Events on Demand - ad hoc activities suggested by our members and facilitated by us
  • In-house Master Classes - commissioned events to ensure you present your expertise to the right people
  • Professional Networking Skills - offered by our founder, Phillip Jones, who shares his expert knowledge on networking skills, strategy and social media throughout the year.

In addition, members are often invited to events hosted by other members, or kindred organisations at special rates.

The Monthly Schmooze

This is our monthly flagship networking evening and are well attended by 80-120 members and guests from a wide range of professions and sectors. The atmosphere is light and welcoming, and often features live performances and special venues, perfect for cultivating new professional relationships.

No name tags, no spiel from our sponsor, rather a vibe conducive to conversation amongst outgoing and interesting professionals.  Our staff are on hard to introduce you about to ensure you feel welcome and connected and in short, they don't feel like your typical business function!

Young Professional EVENTS

These events are open to anyone under 30, and we offer a mix of workshops and informal networking evenings including professionals and entrepreneurs who share their insights relevant to those starting their careers.

Our format of events are unique and are designed to be personalised and thought provoking with a mix of formats including seminars and workshops including industry contact nights.

member 360 discussions

These events provide a supportive environment that helps members workshop aspects of each other's company. Members bring a challenge they have in their business to get some 360 feedback from the others that can help them drive their business forward.

Places are limited to 6 members to ensure a personalised experience, so book your place today and please prepare an aspect of your business you wish the group to explore. It may be your website, or your facebook page, or how you describe your services, some honest feedback could just be what you need!

BUSINESS FUNDAMENTALS Workshops

We offer monthly workshops for up to 20 participants that provide practical insights that participants can apply in their professional and business lives. The events also provide a platform for members to showcase their expertise and provide a great networking opportunity.

Some past topics have included, sales techqiues, personal branding, the essence of great branding, emotional intelligence, personal organisation and effectiveness, media management, and measuring effective social media communications.

We offer 11 of these events per year in each location.

The Business Lunch Club and networking dinners

These events feature guest speakers who start a lively discussion on a particular business issue or theme. The Schmooze team will also facilitate the seating plan to help ensure our members can meet the right people over lunch.

This event is perfect for business owners and senior managers and provide a great way to be inspired and connect in an intimate setting of up to 20 people.   Some months we also have an idea as a starting point for discussion for the table.

Schmooze@Campus

This unique program of events has been developed in response to demand by students at the Australian National University, University of Canberra and the Canberra Institute of Technology.

The events provide a range of essential interpersonal and career skills in a series of informal workshops delivered by the Schmooze team and our expert members. We run these events in-house, as well in open to all students, and run them close to campuses and at a student-friendly time and cost. The workshops run several times per year.

MEMBER EXPERIENCES

These events provide the opportunity for members to showcase their premises in a co-branded way, supported by Schmooze. We offer one of these each month, and they can be as small or large as the member likes and each event is unique!


NETWORKING SKILLS WORKSHOPS

At Schmooze we've been creating premium networking experiences in the real world and online for over 9 years.

This deep experience into effective tactics, personalities and strategy can be accessed through our in-house workshops which are presented by Schmooze's founder, Phillip Jones. The sessions are suitable anyone and are anchored in the real world situations the participants have to deal with.

The workshops are tailored to the learning outcomes of the particular challenges of the participants and can include:

  • fundamental networking skills
  • developing a networking strategy or gameplan
  • personal branding
  • online profiles
  • systems for maintaining contacts
  • identifying networking opportunities
  • how to connect and establish rapport.

The sessions run between 1.5 to 2.5 hours and include a workbook, and follow-up support.

We also offer sessions in:

  • LinkedIn Networking Fundamentals
  • Professional Networking Skills
  • Developing a Networking/Client Relations Strategy game plan

Events on Demand & Member Only Activities

Schmooze also offers an innovative program of events which are nominated by our members, and facilitated by us. These range from special interest groups, social activities and more. Members can attend these at cost price or special rates.

Members suggest the themes and topics and we run them when sufficient demand is there.

Master Classes and Custom Events

Schmooze can be commissioned to run, design and populate events ranging from workshops, networking sessions at conferences or help with invitations to an event you may be hosting such as a launch. 

We can be be commissioned to stage Master Classes where we personally invite the participants so that the member can present their expertise to a targeted audience in a discrete and personalised way.
